| While some people in the north of England where navigating around their gardens in a rowing boat we were navigating the grounds of the police sports club in Chigwell in hot sunshine. Once again the stunning grounds of the Police club played host to what is the most eagerly awaited event in the Upminster Ishinryu social calendar. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| With nearly 80 people in attendance the format for the day followed a familiar pattern with everyone arriving setting out their picnic blankets and chairs and then indulging in the ancient British tradition of queuing up for a burger. The hungry masses kept our two master chefs John B and Dave Chalmers busy all afternoon ( many thanks to the pair of them, so far not one reported case of salmonella). | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Once the burgers had been digested it was obvious to see that the children were getting restless and wanted to stretch their little legs, so little Billy Chalmers and wee Robbie Taylor started a small water fight that turned into a full scale riot. It reached a climax when Billy, who never drives anywhere without two pump action water pistols in the boot of his car and Rob calmed the riot with the help of their super soakers (I think that's what they call them these days) Its clear that most of the kids came prepared as they all seemed to remerge in a fresh change of clothes for the annual soft ball match. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| The softball match was met with equal enthusiasm by young and old alike, with one of the big hitters nearly claiming a distant passing car (we will get one, its just a matter of time), the score was probably a draw as usually by the end nobody can quiet remember, although the question is still being asked "what happened to the chocolate cake while the game was being played". The finger has been pointed firmly at a small group of mums who had chocolate crumbs around their mouths, but further questioning failed to reveal anything conclusive. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Some people felt they had not burnt enough energy off and started a 27 a side game of football while some of the kids took to the bouncy castle and the smaller ones had their faces painted very professionally by Linda and Laura. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| All children in attendance got an Upminster Ishinryu colouring in book and pencils to take away with them to remind them of the great day. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| This is a great event enjoyed by everyone but it would not be possible without the tireless efforts of John and Daryl Bonas, Nicky Surridge and Jimmy Welch. Many thanks to these and the other people already mentioned for making this day the big success that it is. | ||||||||||||||||||||
